Aestuver Cable Trough Lid: Safety, Strength, and Simplicity Combined

Our D+2 product doesn't get enough attention. Therefore, we decided to give our readers more details about it.

Dive in if you want to lear more about the lightweight solution for cable trouch covers.

When it comes to protecting critical infrastructure, especially in tunnels, industrial facilities, or anywhere cables need reliable coverage, choosing the right cable trough lid makes all the difference.

Our Aestuver cable trough lids (often referred to in technical docs as the D+2 system) deliver non-combustible performance - (A1 fire classfication), serious load-bearing capacity, and long-term durability that installers and specifiers actually appreciate.

Why a High-Performance Cable Trough Lid Matters

Cable routes are lifelines. They carry power, data, and communication lines that keep everything running. But they’re also vulnerable—to fire, mechanical damage, moisture, and heavy foot traffic. A basic lid won’t cut it in demanding environments. You need something engineered to handle real-world abuse while meeting the strictest fire safety standards.

That’s exactly what this cement-bound, glass-fibre reinforced lightweight concrete cable trough lid provides.

Fire Protection You Can Trust

One of the standout features is its A1 classification according to DIN EN 13501-1—the highest non-combustible rating. This isn’t just marketing speak; it’s backed by independent testing from MFPA Leipzig. The material shows virtually zero contribution to fire, with excellent performance in both the non-combustibility (EN ISO 1182) and heat of combustion (EN ISO 1716) tests.

For applications requiring higher fire resistance, the system can achieve I 90 and E 90 ratings when the full construction is properly verified. Whether you’re designing escape routes or protecting cable installations in high-risk areas, this gives you peace of mind.

Built for Real Loads and Real Conditions

These cable trough lids aren’t just fireproof—they’re tough:

  • Walkable and dynamically loadable – perfect for maintenance access
  • Excellent compressive and bending tensile strength
  • High abrasion resistance for long service life
  • Fully water and frost resistant
  • Resistant to rotting, mould, and pests
  • Easy to clean

The lids come in three configurations (Type I, II, and III) to match different load requirements:

  • Type I: Standard version with step rebate
  • Type II & III: Reinforced with additional Powerpanel H₂O layers (and glass fibre in Type III) for higher loads

You can achieve traffic loads up to 19 kN/m² depending on span and type, making them suitable even for more demanding areas. The clever step-fold (Stufenfalz) design ensures proper fire-safe overlapping at joints—50 mm offset that protects transverse seams effectively.

Lightweight Cable Trough Lid

- 47kg/m2 for D+2 light

That means that the cable trough lid 500mmx450mmx42.5mm weights only 11kg.

Cable trough lid 1000mmx450mmx42.5mm is only 22kg.

- 60kg/m2 for standard D+2

lid 500mmx450mmx55mm - 13.5kg

lid 1000mmx450mmx55mm - 27kg
